Delete your account

You can delete your gotta account at any time. Deleting your account is permanent: it cannot be undone, and a deleted account cannot be restored or recovered.

Delete from the app

This is the fastest way, and it takes effect immediately.

  1. Open gotta and go to your profile.
  2. Open the menu, then tap Settings.
  3. Tap Delete account.
  4. Confirm when prompted.

Request deletion by email

If you cannot reach the app — for example you no longer have the device, or you cannot sign in — you can ask us to delete the account for you at hello@joingotta.com.

Please send your request from the email address on the account, or tell us the username, so we can confirm the account is yours. We may ask you to verify ownership before we delete anything. We will reply by email once the account has been deleted.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted:

  • Your profile is removed, including your name, username, bio, and profile photo.
  • Your stashes, bookmarks, requests, lists, and comments are removed from gotta.
  • Photos and other files you uploaded are deleted.
  • Your followers, the people you follow, and any pending follow requests are removed.
  • Your sign-in credentials are deleted and you are signed out on every device.
  • Push notification tokens are removed, so gotta stops sending you notifications.

Your profile and content stop being visible to other people immediately. Remaining account data is then permanently removed from our active systems.

What we keep, and why

We retain a limited amount of information where it is reasonably necessary:

  • Safety and abuse prevention. Reports and moderation records are kept privately, so that deleting an account does not erase evidence of harmful behaviour or allow someone to evade enforcement.
  • Legal obligations. Records we are required to keep to comply with the law, resolve disputes, or enforce our terms.
  • Backups. Routine encrypted backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule and are not used to restore deleted accounts.

Aggregated or anonymised information that is no longer linked to you or your account may be retained.
